Summary: Report to the Custodian Supervisor, the custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment for all Tribal offices and public areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
- Duties are to clean offices, and other areas, vacuum rugs, sweeping and mopping of floors, low dusting of office furniture, clean windows, window ledges and chair mats. Check and clean light lens for insects.
- High dusting of cabinets, bookcases, door, window frames and other fixtures.
Wipe down walls throughout the buildings.
- Clean all bathrooms (sweep and mop all floors, clean sinks, toilets, mirrors and all hard surfaces). Empty all trash. Maintain a clean and sanitary area on a daily basis. Also includes minor plumbing problems (unplugging toilets sink, etc.).
- Remove all spots and spill from floors as noticed. Floor Care; includes sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, waxing, buffing and burnishing floors. Clean carpets with carpet shampooer.
- Attend job-related training sessions as required.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and keep orderly custodial closet.
- Assist staff with moving office furniture; set up / clean up after Tribal meetings, functions and events. Must be able to lift up too 50lbs.
- Maintain keys for offices in a secure area.
- Maintain a professional and customer friendly attitude while at work.
- Assist with snow clearing and salting at entrances and sidewalks as needed.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
Education and / or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and
- One to three months, related experience and / or training.
Must have a valid driver’s license and must follow the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Vehicle Fleet Policy.
The successful candidate must pass a test for illegal substances prior to being confirmed.
The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
