Tribal Chief Ronald LaFrance, Jr.
Ron LaFrance Jr. has been married eighteen years to Monica Montoya. They have four children, Kanientatiesa, age 17, Kaniehtine, age 12, Ryanne, age 6 and Ariyah, age 4. Mr. LaFrance has lived with his family in Frogtown for the past 14 years. He has been working in the Akwesasne community for the past 22 years since graduating from the Art Institute in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He taught Native Culture and History at Kanatakon School for seven years. Prior to that, he worked at the Ronnatahonni Cultural Center as a Cultural Presenter and as a deejay, production and station manager at CKON 97.3 FM radio station. Ron was elected to two terms as Tribal Sub-Chief and served from 2004 to 2010.
His father was the late Ron LaFrance Senior, Ph.D., and his mother, Martha LaFrance. Ron has two brothers, Kevin and Joel and three sisters, Dawn, Dione and Aonwentsiio. Mr. LaFrance currently serves as the general manager for the Junior B Indian Lacrosse team. He has been involved lacrosse for the past 15 years through coaching, managing and volunteering.
Ron also serves as head chef for the Akwesasne Christmas Basket drive. He continues to volunteer his time cooking for the fire department and sports groups in Akwesasne. He likes to read in what little spare time he has. Rolling Stone is his favorite magazine and Stephen King is his favorite author.
