The TVR Process
Orientation
Before you come into our program there are a few things to be aware of, the first being that we do have a process that every individual will need to follow in order to receive services from this program.
Every potential applicant will need to schedule an orientation session with the Program Manager. You can call the office and make an appointment for this and the Administrative Assistant will be happy to book your appointment. This session will be a one on one session where the Program Manager will tell you all you need to know about Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation and the Process. You may ask any questions you have at this meeting. The orientation sessions usually last approximately 30 minutes. After this session, if you feel you meet the requirements you will be given an application package and continue on to the next step.
Intake
Intake is your first appointment with your counselor. At this appointment you will hand in your documents to help establish eligibility. You and your counselor will discuss your disability and how it creates barriers and impediments in your work life. Again, feel free to ask any questions you might have.
Your counselor will establish eligibility within the next 60 days (sooner if you already have all documents necessary) and send you a letter that you are eligible for services. Please call and make an appointment with your counselor to begin developing your Individual Plan for Employment (IPE)
Gather Information on Jobs and Disability
Together with your counselor, you will conduct some research on potential jobs you would like to have, based on your interests, skills and abilities as well as the limitations of your disability. If you are unsure about what you want to do as far as employment no worries! We have several ways to address this with tools like career exploration and assessments. These questionnaires will help you narrow down specific fields that would suit your personality and interests.
Next, we will work together to identify and discuss how your disability might cause impediments in your desired line of employment and ways to counteract these limitations. In some cases, the limitations might be too severe so we will explore alternatives with your interests always in mind.
Individual Plan for Employment Development
The Individual Plan for Employment is your roadmap to success. It should utilize all the information that you researched in the previous step. You will make choices to decide what you want to do for employment and how to get there. Now you and your counselor will create a timeline of events that will need to occur for you to reach your employment goal. This plan will outline the services that TVR will provide or assist in securing the services from other outside agencies. You will also have tasks that need to be taken seriously and completed to the best of your ability and in return TVR will pay for the services you require in your timeline.
Contact with your counselor should be maintained at a minimum of once a month, please book your appointments and keep them or reschedule if necessary.
Employment and Follow Up
When you are ready to begin your job search, Job Developing will begin with your counselor to assist you. Together you and the Counselor will search for appropriate jobs that match your skills, interests and abilities. You might need or be interested in workshops that we offer to prepare individuals for employment, these can be done while you are searching for a suitable job.
We can assist you with the application process to ensure you have all the requirements and documentation the potential employer is asking of its applicants.
When you get a job, TVR will still remain in contact with you for a minimum of 90 days. We will be available to you to assist with specific needs you might have during your first 90 days on the job. Should you have any conflicts, please let your counselor know and we can help. We want you to have a great experience with your new employer and will be there with you to ensure that you are successful.
