Chief Michael L. Conners
Chief Michael Karoniatens Conners is a lifelong resident of Akwesasne, committed to serving his community. Michael is entering his third term as Tribal Chief, following two consecutive terms as Tribal Sub-Chief, on the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council. Prior to being elected to the Tribal Council in June 2011, Michael spent eight years as the Finance Director of the Tribe's Class II gaming operation, the Mohawk Bingo Palace, one-and-a-half years as Finance Manager for the Tribe's Class III Operation, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, and two years as Internal Auditor for the Tribal Gaming Commission. He has a background in Accounting, graduating from SUNY Plattsburgh, in December 1999. Michael also continues to serve as the Eastern Region delegate on the Indian Gaming Association for the past 6+ years. Michael was also recently appointed to the Boy's & Girl's Club of America National Area Council Committee, as the only Tribal representative representing all Tribal Boy's & Girl's Clubs in the United States.
Michael has renewed his commitments to his community to continue with the funding of the elders benefit, growing the Akwesasne land base for current and future generations, and advocating for the building of a new Akwesasne Boy's & Girl's Club building for our youth. Michael also will be continuing to grow relations on the federal and state level, and commits to working to move forward with the goals & objectives of the Jay Treaty Border Alliance.
Michael is married to Missy, and together, they have six children (ages 16-30) and two grandchildren (age 3 and 7). Michael is the son of Mike and Melanie Conners, and is the grandson of Stanley and Pearl Conners, Louis and Nora Jacobs and thestep-grandson of Pete andDarlene Sunday. Michael enjoys Dirt track and NASCAR racing, and taking the family on travel adventures.
