Recreational Restoration
PCB contamination has resulted in fish consumption advisories (FCAs) on the St. Lawrence River, Turtle Cove, Grasse River and Massena Power Canal adversely affected recreational fishing.
Restoration Projects
The St. Lawrence Environment Trustee Council solicited restoration projects ideas from government, public and non-governmental organizations familiar with the St. Lawrence River ecosystem. The trustees then then vetted these ideas through evaluation criteria, identifying preferred restoration projects, detailed in the Restoration Compensation and Determination Plan.
Preferred ecological projects have a linkage to the injured resources or associated services, proximity to injured resources or protected land, benefits to protected species, benefits to unique habitats and enhance public enjoyment of natural resources.
Ecological Restoration
The release of hazardous materials has been sufficient to cause loss in ecological services in resources such as sediment, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
Cultural Restoration
The people of Akwesasne have experienced the harms of environmental contamination in many different ways; the overall effect has been a disruption of traditional practices that allow for the continuation of a Mohawk way of life.
